Medical professionals recommend Pilates as an alternative solution to fix back and joint pain permanently.
Pilates has become popular as a means of enhancing both physical and mental health and many people now turn to Pilates as an effective method of rehabilitation when it is recommended by their GP, Osteopath, Chiropractor or Physiotherapist.
It works by improving joint and spine mobility, core strength, working positions and posture.
Learning how to do Pilates correctly with a qualified instructor who corrects your position is essential. Only then will you be able to master the correct alignment and movement patterns to help relieve your pain so you progress further and faster without making it worse.
What is Pilates and why do medical professionals recommend it?
Pilates was originally called “Contrology” which links back to its methodology of exercising the entire body to have full control and improved movement whilst performing ones every day activities. Unlike other exercises, Pilates focuses on building core strength to develop functional movement patterns throughout the body. Pilates is a low impact exercise, improving the body’s inner strength by building support across the muscles and joints.
Pilates is recommended by NHS and Doctors as a more cost effective and efficient way of actually fixing back and joint pain in the long term, combining this with a healthier lifestyle. We believe that much of your back and joint pain is not actually anything serious but merely a signal to tell you that your body simply isn’t strong or mobile enough for your demands. This is where Pilates steps in and provides a safe solution for you.
How Pilates is more effective in the long term.
Anything relating to rehabilitation, such as visiting a Physiotherapist, GP, Osteopath or Chiropractor can be quite worrying. Although many people rely on these services for immediate relief of muscle and joint pain, Pilates can just about have the same – if not greater impact on you and furthermore can act as a preventative measure to avoid future recurrences of pain. So we are not just solving the root cause but also improving your overall sense of wellbeing. This will allow you to safely branch out into other hobbies or activities which were previously not possible – all of which results in a healthier and happier you!!
More often the issue is to do with lifestyle, muscle weaknesses, imbalances and postural misalignments which can all be corrected by practising Pilates. The pain is often merely mechanical in nature and often nothing to do with an actual injury! Our bodies give back what we put into them in terms of exercise, nutrition & posture and your pain is how your body complains when you do not listen!!
Book a session and try Pilates for yourself
Medical professionals recommend pilates as they can only support you to a certain point after which your own body needs to take up the slack and become stronger and more flexible to retain that improvement. That’s because even if the treatments offered provide initial relief, there will be a residue of pain and weakness that will re-establish itself over time so that you will find yourself back at square one.
This is where my Pilates sessions can really benefit. Why not look at some of my student’s journeys which started with a recommendation from their health practitioner to study Pilates with me!
